In search of the perfect grapes, gardeners acquire different varieties, many of which take root and grow on the site for many years, becoming favorites. Alice is a relatively new variety, not yet very widespread, but having great potential and has already received positive reviews from gardeners.

Alice grape variety: description and characteristics

Alice is a hybrid form of grape, bred by amateur breeder Vasily Ulyanovich Kapelyushny. Alice's “parents” are the varieties Talisman and Criulyansky.

The hybrid form Alice was obtained by crossing varieties Talisman (left) and Criulensky (right)

Alice matures very early: the growing season is only 95-100 days. The yield of the variety under stable agricultural technology and suitable weather conditions is stable and high. Conical large clusters reach a weight of 700-1200 g. The berries of this hybrid form are large (can be more than 18 g), ovoid or oval, covered with purine plaque (waxy plaque of a gray color). The color of the berries is pink, and when fully ripe, they turn bright red. Alice's berries have a pleasant varietal taste, dense sweet flesh. The skin is not stiff, not dense. After ripening, the berries can be safely left on the bush: they do not burst, do not fall, and are resistant to damage by wasps. The clusters of this variety have excellent presentation and good transportability.

A good presentation of bunches and berries is one of the advantages of Alice grapes

Alice's bushes are characterized by great growth power. Shoots under favorable conditions mature well.

This variety has increased frost resistance (up to -26aboutC), which makes it possible to grow it in the southern regions without shelter and makes, along with an early ripening period, a very promising variety for the northern regions (with shelter for the winter).

The color of the berries is pink. When fully ripe, they turn bright red

Resistance to mildew, oidium and gray decay, the author of the variety V.U. Kapelyushny rated as high (2-2.5 points). But preventative treatment will not be superfluous.

Features of cultivation: basic rules

Alice is not a difficult cultivar in terms of agricultural technology, but in order to get a good, stable crop, you need to know some growing rules.

  • Since Alice’s bush is quite large, care must be taken to support or trellises. Tapestries not only support the plant, but also contribute to natural ventilation inside the bush, and this is an important factor in the prevention of fungal diseases. In addition, distributed on the trellises, clusters will receive maximum sunlight.
  • The bush needs to be normalized, because when overloaded with the crop, the ripening of the vine deteriorates. 35-40 fruit buds per bush - allowable load on the plant. Fruit shoots are cut into 6-8 eyes.
  • The variety is well compatible with stocks. Of the recommended ones - Kober 5BB, Ferkal, СО4, 101-14. Alice, grafted, for example, on such a famous stock as Kober 5BB, can give up to 40-50% more yield.

With planting grapes of this variety there are no problems, since the cuttings root very well.

The bush begins to bear fruit in the third year after planting in a permanent place.

With good care, Alice will appreciate a large harvest

Grade Reviews

Alice, despite her excellent characteristics, is not a common variety. The main reason is that they began to grow this hybrid form not so long ago, but in order to adequately evaluate the variety, you need to observe an adult fruiting plant for at least 2-3 years. But reviews on the variety are already there, and they are mostly positive.

But about Alice there is almost no information and this is strange for me, so I'll tell you a little. He took it, you can say, for fun (his wife's name). In 2013, he was in the Crimea and cataloged by Tsekalo V.M. I saw this name, at that time I did not hear anything about it. Now - there were two normal fruiting and some conclusions can already be made. The early ripening period is not confirmed, it really ripens in late August [in Dnepropetrovsk], it hangs well - it traded in September and October. The flower is female (maybe transient), but pollination is almost perfect, moderately loose bunch, peas were not at all, very insignificant variety of berries is possible. There were no more clusters from 0.5 to 1.5 kg. The berry is clearly more than 10 g, did not weigh, but I think 10-15 g can be considered bold. The taste is harmonious, without frills, but very decent. Consistency - fleshy-juicy, when overhangs even a semblance of "crunch" appears. The peel is very delicate (consumer qualities +, transportability -). Sustainability, of course, was not at all 2 points: in “sympathies” for the oidium, it was not noticed, but with mildew - at level 3, or even worse, there was no rot. The market form, without question, flew off at the level of Anyuta, Rizamat, i.e. at the highest price.

Some gardeners note that the size of the berries is smaller than they expected. But in such cases, it is usually about the first fruiting, and it is hardly worth judging by the characteristics of the variety.

Last year, he planted Alice in the fall, this year he gave a signal bunch. The bush was weak, the berries are not large, the taste is sweet, although according to the description the berries are large. Let's see what happens next, the bush is only 1 year old.

Alice is a young variety, not yet very common, but he already has his admirers

Alice, although a rare variety, is worth paying attention to. Easy to care for, with excellent characteristics, early ripe and frost-resistant, it can become your favorite and take its rightful place in the garden.
