Anthurium can be called the most popular exotica, which is grown in Russia. This is connected not only with a chic appearance, an abundance of varieties (the most popular is the usual one with red flowers), relative unpretentiousness, when compared with other exotic plants, as well as with a huge number of folk signs. The people call this flower "male happiness." Anthurium flower, home care, transplantation are not something too complicated. The main thing is to know certain rules.

Reasons for transplanting anthurium

Transplanting a flower can occur for various reasons: after purchase, transplanting an overgrown plant, as well as changing the capacity for a flower after an illness. Depending on the reason for changing the location of the plant, certain rules must be followed.

Anthurium: transplant

After the purchase

After the purchase, the anthurium must be transplanted immediately, the maximum shelf life of the previous packaging is no more than 5 days. He is not one of those plants that can wait. How to transplant anthurium after purchase:

  1. Remove all available peduncles.
  2. Remove the plant from the pot in which it grew in the store.
  3. Get rid of the soil in which the flower grew, brush off the roots as much as possible, without damaging them.
  4. Treat the roots with Fitolavin. It is an excellent biofungicide that is safe. It disinfects the root system, preventing the appearance of fungal diseases.
  5. A good layer of drainage is poured at the bottom of the new flowerpot (25% of the total pot volume). Expanded clay is best suited. A layer of sphagnum is laid on top of it. Next, a flower is already set.
  6. The voids are filled with prepared soil so that the growth point is at the same level with the topsoil.

Transplant after purchase

The first watering is done depending on the temperature in the room. If it’s warm enough there, you can water the plant immediately, but in a cool room you should wait a day, so that the injured, moved to a new place, the roots are a little accustomed to a change of situation.

Important!Since all parts of the anthurium contain poisonous juice, work on transplanting it should always be carried out with rubber gloves in order to avoid burns of the skin.

Scheduled transplant

The main reasons for a planned transplant are:

  • the tightness of the pot when the roots are completely braided by an earthen lump;
  • incorrectly selected composition of the substrate, due to which the anthurium cannot normally grow and develop.

Depending on the reason, the transplant is carried out either by transferring to a new, more spacious pot with the preservation of an earthen coma, or by cleaning the roots of the old soil and planting the flower in a new nutrient soil mixture.

Important! Adult actively flowering plants need a transplant in a new pot once every 3 years. It all depends on the conditions of growth, development and age of the plant.

The fact that a transplant is necessary is indicated by the roots, which peek out from the pot from above, and also break through the drainage hole. This is due to the fact that the roots do not find a place and nutrition inside the earthen coma and break out, hoping to get them from the outside.

So that the flower is not damaged during the transplant, it should be watered well before the procedure. So the earth will become softer and easier to fall out of the pot. If the container is made of plastic, you can try mashing it a bit so that the soil moves away from the walls, and it is easier for the grower to remove the flower.

Before planting in a new pot, it is necessary to pour a layer of drainage, on top of which to place a layer of fresh soil. The plant is carefully transferred there, the remaining voids are filled with earth.

Lush flowering Anthurium

If the pot is not much larger than the flowerpot in which the anthurium grew before then, it will soon bloom. It is worth giving preference to such containers in which the depth is approximately equal to the diameter. If a too wide vessel is selected, the anthurium will not bloom soon. At first, he will build up the root system, covering the earthen ball as much as possible, only after that he will pay attention to the ground part and throw out flower stalks.

The final stage of transplantation will be tamping the soil. This must be done carefully, without touching the delicate roots. The top layer should be renewed, water the plant again and mulch with sphagnum to reduce the amount of evaporated liquid.

Anthurium mix

Transplanting a diseased plant

The grower should worry that the mixture does not fit the flower if:

  • spots appear on the stems and leaves;
  • leaves fade, begin to turn yellow, their turgor is lost;
  • growth and development slow down, flowering does not occur.

The problem can be anything: in excess or lack of moisture in the substrate, its scarcity, the appearance of pests, diseases or pathogenic bacteria. In such cases, it is necessary to transplant anthurium and provide him with care in the future. How to transplant anthurium in case of illness, step-by-step instruction:

  1. Anthurium watered and carefully removed from the pot.
  2. Old soil is removed as much as possible, the roots are carefully inspected.
  3. If the roots begin to rot, the rotten areas are cut to a healthy place, the slices are sprinkled with crushed charcoal or treated with a disinfector.
  4. They process the ground part: remove inflorescences along with peduncles, cut off all yellow and dry leaves, this will help the plant recover faster after an illness.
  5. The plant, on the roots of which rot was detected, must be treated with a fungicide.

Advice! It is better to choose a new container for transplantation, but in the absence of such an opportunity, it is necessary to disinfect the old pot so that there are no traces of bacteria on it. Soil needs to be changed completely.

Is it possible to transplant during flowering? During flowering, it is not necessary to transplant without the need. But if the flower is sick, then the peduncles need to be cut and the procedure performed.

Preparatory stage

All that is needed for the preparatory phase is a properly selected pot, soil, drainage and the plant itself.

In which pot to plant anthurium

Transplanting and breeding guzmania at home

You should not choose a spacious pot, it is better to dwell on those in which the root system will enter completely, but at the same time the capacity will not be too wide and deep. Large spaces should not remain, otherwise the development of the green part will slow down, and flowering will not occur for a long time.

What soil is needed

Anthurium is a flower that will feel good only in a very loose substrate. Therefore, even when buying soil intended specifically for these plants, it is worth adding perlite or some other baking powder. An optimal soil mixture should provide oxygen and good water permeability.

Attention! If you make a mistake with the choice of soil, the flower will begin to fade, turn yellow, its growth and development will slow down, and a young plant may die in general.

There are different versions of the mixture, in which it is recommended to transplant anthurium.

First:

  • ready-made mixture for planting orchids;
  • crushed charcoal;
  • a bit of turf.

Option of personally prepared composition:

  • sphagnum;
  • peat;
  • coconut fiber.

In this case, all components must be mixed in equal proportions.

Advice! The topsoil taken in the spruce forest is also suitable for updating the soil. But such a mixture must be disinfected with a solution of manganese.

How to treat flower roots

When transplanting an adult tall plant with a large number of aerial roots, the processing process can be minimized or not carried out at all. For transplanting a healthy adult plant by transshipment, additional processing is not necessary.

When transplanting after acquiring a flower or if the plant did not like the soil, the roots must be cleaned and held in a potassium permanganate solution. You can use any other disinfector from a specialized store. If the roots had to be cut, the places of the cut are most often sprinkled with crushed charcoal.

Caring for a flower is not difficult. Everything is almost the same as with an adult plant.

  • Watering

  • External factors

The light should be bright, diffused. Anthurium is a resident of the tropics, therefore, the conditions for the maintenance of this exotics must be appropriate. Humidity should always be high, it is better to install a plate with water, moist expanded clay or a humidifier next to the pot. Temperatures in summer can reach +28 ° С, in winter - about +20 ° С.
