Using Peony Red Charm in Landscaping

Growing a flower, how to plant in open ground

The best option for planting and propagating the Red Sharm peony is to split the root system. For this procedure, plants aged 4-5 years are optimal.

Planting with root cuttings

Peony Coral Charm (Paeonia Coral Charm) - features propagation varieties

The root stem is a part of the peony's rhizome, which has an independent root and 1 or more eyes for growth. To apply this method of planting, you must first select the planting material. Its preparation is carried out as follows:

  1. Gently, without damaging the roots, the rhizome of an adult peony is dug up. It is divided into small pieces, about 6 cm each. All pieces must have at least 1 kidney and a root.
  2. For a couple of hours, parts of the rhizome are put in a potassium permanganate solution, then rolled in crushed charcoal and dried in fresh air until a small crust forms (it will take 10-12 hours, you can leave it overnight).

After this, the planting material is deepened into the nutrient mixture by about 4 cm. The place where the cuttings will germinate should be well lit. The substrate must be regularly moistened.

Important! It is possible to germinate root cuttings both at home and in the open ground. In any case, shoots appear in the spring. They can only be transplanted to a permanent place in a year.

What time is the landing

The optimal landing date is the end of August - the beginning of September.

Location selection

The place should be well lit, protected from gusts of cold wind and drafts. Light shading is acceptable, protecting the flower from midday hot rays. The soil needs nutritious and well-drained soil. Groundwater should pass no higher than 1 m from the plant.

How to prepare the soil and flower for planting

The landing pit is prepared about 1 month before the start of landing. The soil must be well loosened, with the obligatory addition of compost and humus, as well as mineral and complex fertilizers. A couple of hours before direct disembarkation into the ground, the root system of the shank is checked for damage and soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate, the places of cuts are processed with crushed charcoal.

Landing procedure step by step:

  1. Drainage and necessary fertilizers are introduced into the prepared landing pit.
  2. Sand is added to too clay soil and vice versa.
  3. Prepared seedlings are placed in holes, sprinkled with earth.

After that, the soil is carefully watered and mulched with any natural material.

Seeding (for breeding)

Planting seeds for hybrid varieties is not applicable. Peonies can grow from seeds, but these will already be plants of a different variety, and not Red Charm.

Plant care

The scheme for peony care is not too complicated, but all the basic procedures need to be carried out on time, and also to monitor the appearance of possible fungal infections and parasite insects.

Watering and feeding

Peony Pillow Talk - flower features

In the first 2 years after planting, plant nutrition is not required, those nutrients that were laid in the ground during planting will be enough. Starting from the 3rd year, the flowers feed:

  • immediately after the complete snow melt (approximately in mid-April);
  • during the formation of buds;
  • at the end of flowering.

For feeding use special complex fertilizers. During flowering, potassium-phosphorus fertilizers can be applied, as well as a weak solution of chicken droppings. In the spring, a little ash is brought into the ground.

Additional Information. All grassy peonies are quite resistant to drought. This also applies to Red Charm. Adult bushes enough to water once a week. From 20 to 40 liters of water are poured under each bush. The dose depends on the age, size of the plant, as well as weather conditions.

Mulching and cultivation

Each time after watering, the soil is carefully loosened so as not to touch the root system of the flower. You can replace this procedure with mulching.

Preventative treatment

Most often, it is carried out in early spring, even before the buds are laid. Peony is treated with fungicidal solutions. Bordeaux mixture (3 l per 1 bush) will protect against pests. Since this variety has a fairly low immunity, a similar treatment should be carried out after flowering plants. You also need to carefully follow all the rules of care and planting a flower, the health of the plant will depend on this.

Blooming Peony Red Charm

Flowering is magnificent and long. If you properly care for the peony, you can extend its term.

Period of activity and rest

Peony White Cap (Paeonia White Cap) - features of planting a flower

Flowering begins in late May - early June, lasts about a crescent. After this, the bush goes into a dormant stage.

Care during and after flowering

During flowering, it is necessary to regularly water and feed Red Charm. It is important to exclude the use of nitrogenous fertilizers, they are contraindicated in flowers.

Important! During the flowering period, top dressing is performed 3 times: when the buds are only laid, immediately when inflorescences appear, after flowering.

What to do if it does not bloom, possible causes

The main reasons that can cause a lack of flowering are the following:

  • Lack of light. If the bush was originally planted incorrectly, it must be transplanted to a more open place. Only then will it bloom.
  • Nutrient deficiency. After 2 years of life, additional fertilizer is required in the substrate.
  • Very deep flower planting. The maximum depth of the landing pit should be 50 cm.

Peonies after flowering

As soon as the plant fades, it needs to be prepared for winter. This should be taken especially carefully. The development and flowering of peonies in the next year depends on the proper observance of all the rules.

Transfer

It is not recommended to transplant a peony, since the root system grows, becomes very powerful, and you should not disturb it. But if it became clear that the seat was chosen incorrectly, you can carefully transplant Red Charm by transshipment.

Pruning

It is very important to remove all wilted flowers, they can cause the development of many infectious diseases. Cardinal pruning of grassy peonies is carried out before wintering - the ground part is completely removed, only small parts of the stem of 15 cm remain.

Winter preparations

The variety can winter at fairly low temperatures, so preparing for winter is simple. The remaining stems swell to the highest possible height. From above they are covered with cut parts of an adult plant.

Important! In addition to high hilling and sheltering in parts of an adult flower, peony Charm does not need any other protection from winter frosts. It perfectly wintered under a layer of snow.

Diseases, pests and ways to combat them

Of the diseases, this variety is especially unstable to gray rot, powdery mildew, mosaic, and rust. Preventive treatment and fungicides help to cope with them. The most common flower pests are aphids, ants, and nematodes. To combat them, special insecticides are used.

Peony Red Charm - the finest variety, early flowering, bright and lush. The culture does not require any special events during cultivation, and is also universal in terms of use in landscape design, so even beginners will cope with the care of the plant.
